Season Overview: The Tar Heels were in the mix in the ACC for a good chunk of the season. Quarterback Drake Maye was one of the best quarterbacks in college football. Unfortunately, the defense caught up with the Tar Heels, and opposing defenses adjusted to what UNC did offensively.

Unsurprisingly, all four of North Carolina’s losses were also Drake Maye’s four worst games of the season.

2023 Outlook: Head coach Mack Brown has to be on the hot seat coming into next season. Brown and his staff have improved the infrastructure and recruiting of the program. They’ve done an excellent job of keeping many of the best talents in the state, but they need to win more. The Tar Heels need to play better defense and be a legit Playoff contender. They can’t have Sam Howell and Drake Maye and not win at least one conference title.
