Season Overview: You never want to say a coaching hire will not work after just one season, but this season was a disaster under first-year head coach Tony Elliot, considering how former head coach Bronco Mendenhall worked on improving the infrastructure in the program. There is an argument to be made that Elliot did not have the personnel to run the offense he wanted.
That said, Brennan Armstrong’s struggles are enough to give anyone pause about how Elliot wants to build this team offensively. DJ Uiagalelei improved after Elliot left and struggled when he was the OC at Clemson.
2023 Outlook: Armstrong’s struggles forced him into the transfer portal, so Elliot needs to find a quarterback. Jay Woolfolk is the only other quarterback of note on the roster currently. Tony Muskett comes in from FCS Monmouth, but that might need to be more competition for the position. Kobe Pace coming over from Clemson gives the Cavaliers a veteran running back who knows Elliot’s offense.
