Loser: Notre Dame Football

Notre Dame football looked like it was going to contend for the No. 1 class over the summer when it had multiple five-star commitments and appeared to be the leader for Dante Moore.

Of course, we know Moore went to Oregon and then UCLA. The Irish did land five-star QB CJ Carr in the 2024 college football recruiting class, so the future is still bright but the 2023 class ended up slightly disappointing for the Irish.

To be clear, it’s a really good class. Notre Dame is ranked 9th overall with 24 commitments, four of which are ranked in the top 100 of the 247 sports composite rankings.

The blue-chip ratio is 20/24 and a bunch of guys ranked in the top 200 signed, so on the whole, it looks like an SEC class. But some of the shine was worn off in recent weeks with the flips of Keon Keeley, Dylan Edwards, Jayden Limar, and Peyton Bowen.

The fact that Notre Dame football lost two key players to Oregon on Early National Signing Day also has to sting. Many teams would be envious of Notre Dame’s haul, but there has to be a little what-if factor for the Irish who let some top talent out the door late in the process.
