Princewill Umanmielen

The Huskers just realized that Garrett Nelson won’t be back next season as he announced that he was declaring for the NFL draft on Tuesday.

Nelson was the Huskers’ best edge rusher last season and while there was hope he would return among Nebraska football fans, it’s not a huge surprise with a new staff coming in.

I’m sure Rhule and company would have loved Nelson, but he’s got NFL talent and is really solid against the run but that’s why he will get drafted. On the flip side, Princewill Umanmielen will now have an even better chance to make an instant impact for Nebraska football next season.

Umanmielen is 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, and out of the state of Texas. He’s the second highest-rated commitment in the class and like Coleman, he’s a super-talented player at a position of need.

You don’t want to need freshmen to make early impacts in their college career and Nebraska will surely try to add more EDGE defenders in the transfer portal after signing four in the 2023 class already, but Umanmielen has the ability to play right away and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him make an early impact in the year one of Matt Rhule.
