2. Georgia shows the heart of a champion

It wasn’t their best night, and it almost cost them, but Georgia football showed the heart of a champion last night. In a game that appeared to be a potential mismatch in their backyard, Georgia quickly found themselves in a battle for their playoff lives.

It was apparent quickly that Ohio State had brought their A game, while Georgia was not at their best. Heisman finalist Stetson Bennett was inaccurate early, throwing a critical interception. Potential top-pick defensive tackle Jalen Carter was silent for the game, minus one big swatted pass late in the game. Future first-round pick Kelee Ringo got cooked a few times in coverage. It was not looking good early, middle, or late.

But, like the great ones, they’re not always great, but they’re great when they have to be. Georgia, and specifically Stetson Bennett, was great in the 4th quarter.

Bennett finished 23/34 for 398 yards and 4 total touchdowns. It wasn’t always pretty, but one of the greatest underdog stories in college football history had a beautiful penultimate chapter in the Peach Bowl, Bennett’s final game in his home state.

It is important to point out that the Bulldogs outscored the Buckeyes 18-3 after Marvin Harrison Jr’s injury. Credit to the Bulldogs’ offense for being aggressive and taking advantage of blown coverage to take the lead, and credit to the Bulldogs’ defense.

It was clearly their worst night since they were cooked by Bryce Young in the 2021 SEC championship, but when they absolutely needed stops in the fourth quarter, they got them.

Much like the Fiesta Bowl was one for the ages, so too was the Peach Bowl.
