Is a new dynasty in the works?

Ever since Nick Saban took over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the late 2000s, Alabama has become the team to beat. The Tide have accumulated a 189-27 record with six national titles and eight conference titles since 2007, and for a long time, the dynasty looked to be untouchable.

Until it wasn’t.

After Kirby Smart took over at Georgia in 2016, the Dawgs had a quick rise from 8-5 that year, to a 13-2 record in 2017 and a national title game appearance. From there, Georgia has blasted off into another dimension; they’re 80-15 since Smart took over from Mark Richt.

In 2021, Georgia finally overcame Alabama where it mattered most. The Dawgs won the national championship, their first in 41 years.

That propelled them to the contest that they’ll face on January 9th against TCU. Georgia, with the exception of Ohio State in this year’s Peach Bowl, looked unstoppable this season.

Should Georgia win against the Horned Frogs, we’ll know for certain that Alabama isn’t the big kid on the block anymore. A new dynasty will be heralded, and they’ll be wearing silver britches.
