Georgia’s draft talent

Technically, the draft prospects for Georgia are always a reason to watch. However, on the biggest stage, the best players usually shine.

Last year, Georgia had five defensive players taken in the first round of the draft, a new record. That led to a total of 15 draft picks coming from the Athens side.

Georgia doesn’t have quite so many draft prospects this year. After all, the well can only get so deep. Yet, another three defensive starters from this year’s team could hear their names called during the first round of the draft.

Top among those names is Jalen Carter, the massive-yet-mobile defensive tackle that could go in the top five of the draft. His strong, powerful hands should be able to easily puncture TCU’s offensive line.

Next is Keelee Ringo, the big 6-foot-2, a 210-pound corner who can lock on and defend any receiver thrown at him.

Nolan Smith rounds out the three Georgia defenders with first-round potential. He’s a shifty-yet-powerful outside linebacker who can play both with his hand in the ground, as well as coverage on slot receivers and tight ends.

There are other prospects to watch too. Offensive tackle Broderick Jones and massive tight end Darnell Washington could all hear their names called in the 2023 early rounds.

Even more Dawgs could hear their names called in later rounds, and this is the last great opportunity they’ll have to impress the NFL scouts before the combine starts.
