Season Overview: Starting quarterback Cameron Ward took some time to adjust to Power Five football, but when he did, he was one of the better quarterbacks in the Pac-12. Head coach Jake Dickert got the Cougars to the postseason in his first entire season as head coach. The Cougars played Utah and Oregon within one score and upset Wisconsin, ranked #19 at the time. The biggest positive from the season was how well the defense played. They allowed 30 points just three times.
2023 Outlook: How different will the offense look under new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle? Former offensive coordinator Eric Morris is the new head coach at North Texas, but he was also Ward’s head coach at Incarnate Word. The Cougar defense is experienced and should have success again this season. If Ward and the offense are more consistent, Wazzu should make some noise in the Pac-12.
