Alabama Football: 5 potential replacements for OC Bill O’Brien
By Dante Pryor
1. Kliff Kingsbury, former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals
Kingsbury seems to be the hot name to be the next offensive coordinator at Alabama. Kingsbury worked with Case Keenum while a quality control coach at Houston in 2008. Keenum threw for over 5,000 yards and 44 touchdowns. When then-offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen left for Oklahoma State, Kingsbury was promoted to co-offensive coordinator.
Kingsbury was the 2011 offensive coordinator of the year when the Cougars averaged nearly 50 points per game and 600 yards of offense. King followed Kevin Sumlin to Texas A&M where he was offensive coordinator and coached Johnny Manziel to the Heisman Trophy in 2012.
Kingsbury became the second-youngest Power Five head coach when his alma mater, Texas Tech, hired him in 2013. While at Texas Tech, Kingsbury coached NFL quarterbacks Davis Webb and Patrick Mahomes, and tight end Jace Amaro became the first consensus All-American at Texas Tech since Michael Crabtree in 2008.
The NFL did not work out for Kingsbury as he never got things going at Arizona. The Cardinals never found the success they desired with the combination of Kingsbury and quarterback Kyler Murray.
Does Kingsbury want to get back into coaching this fall? Rumor is that he wants to travel and take a year off. Maybe the draw of Tuscaloosa is too great for Kingsbury to pass up.
