2. Charlie Weis Jr.

The last name of Weis might trigger some Notre Dame football fans after the Charlie Weiss era ended the way it did. Yet, the son, Charlie Weis Jr. has become one of the top up-and-coming offensive coordinators in college football.

Weis Jr. has spent the past few years working under Lane Kiffin. He worked at Florida Atlantic and South Florida as the co-OC and quarterbacks coach. He also spent a season at Alabama and with the Atlanta Falcons.

Weis Jr. has spent the last two years as the co-OC/QBs coach at Ole Miss. Obviously, Lane Kiffin plays a big part in the offense, but Weis Jr. has learned under some really good coaches and whatever his dad’s faults as a head coach, he was always a good play-caller and is probably ready to be an offensive coordinator on his own (with a big pay raise to boot).

Ole Miss ran a modern spread system that also featured a heavy run game. It feels like a hire that would be attractive to Sam Hartman, but you don’t know if Notre Dame football or Weis Jr. would be willing to go that direction.

If so, it could be a really wise move for the Irish.
