5 good/bad surprises in 2023 college football recruiting class
Utah with its best class ever
It’s been a couple of good years for the Utah Utes. They won their second straight Pac-12 championship this season and it finally paid off on the recruiting trail with the No. 21 overall class.
Kyle Whittingham has done a spectacular job and this is the best recruiting class the Utes have ever signed. They have never had a class ranked in the top 30 of the 247 sports team rankings and the 2023 class finished ranked 21st for Utah.
The Utes landed eight four-star prospects in this class and two of the top-13 offensive tackles in Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu. Unlike Michigan, Utah is getting better on the recruiting trail and if the winning continues, the ranking could continue to climb.
Texas Tech also has a stellar class
Another team that did exceptionally well in the 2023 college football recruiting class was Texas Tech. The Red Raiders signed the No. 26 class and that includes five four-star prospects.
The past three classes were ranked outside the top 40, so this was a really good haul for the Red Raiders and an important one as teams like Houston enter the Big 12 next season. Head coach Joey McGuire and his ties to Texas as a former Baylor assistant and Texas High School head coach have paid off in a really big way.
