Nebraska football: Jeff Sims or Casey Thompson

New Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule will have a decision to make at the quarterback position and it’s one that could wait until August.

Rhule was able to get former Georgia Tech starting quarterback Jeff Sims in the transfer portal. He’s got three years to play two. Sims also played for Geoff Collins who coached under Rhule and that’s how Rhule became familiar with him.

Casey Thompson, last season’s starter for Nebraska football is back but could miss the entire spring due to surgery. He’ll be ready for fall camp and he could even throw this spring.

Yet, Thompson will be limited. He’s known as the better thrower, while Thompson is the better running option. I think both guys will start games next season for the Huskers but I think the idea that Sims will win the starting job is premature.

Thompson throws a really good football and that will win him the job to start the season.
