Where will the sacks come from?

Maybe the biggest question mark on the roster for Nebraska football heading into the 2023 season comes at the EDGE.

Nebraska lost their top three pass rushers from last season in Garrett Nelson, Ochaun Mathis, and Caleb Tannor. Of course, the Huskers made some moves in the transfer portal, but there isn’t a single player on the team with more than a few sacks to their credit at the position.

MJ Sherman from Georgia is expected to be a key part of the plan next season. He was a former top-100 recruit and just didn’t see much time with the Bulldogs outside of special teams. But he’s got tons of ability and as much as anyone at the EDGE for the Huskers.

Chief Borders, another SEC transfer from Florida, should also be in the mix along with some holdovers such as Blaise Gunnerson and Jimari Butler.

In his first press conference, Matt Rhule said he wanted Nebraska to protect and affect the quarterback. Well, it’s easier said than done and the pass rush is about as big a question as the offensive line heading into the spring.
