SEC Football: Most impactful newcomers for each team
By Dante Pryor
Texas A&M Aggies
New offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino is the most significant addition to the Aggies this offseason. The former Central Arkansas head coach left UNLV to take the same position at Texas A&M. If Jimbo lets him cook, Petrino could be an asset. As for the talent on the field, the Aggies have no shortage of incoming talent on both sides of the ball.
It looks like Conner Weigman’s team is coming into the season. The true sophomore will be without Anais Smith and Devon Achane as they are off to the NFL. Incoming freshman running back Rueben Owens can compete for carries this spring. Owens has burst and can catch the football out of the backfield.
UTEP transfer Tyrin Smith gives Weigman speed and depth in the slot at wide receiver. Don’t let his diminutive stature fool you. Size is not a skill; you cannot hit what you cannot catch, and Smith is hard to catch.
Incoming frosh defensive lineman David Hicks is sure to get snaps this fall. He has all of the measurables at 6-foot-4 and nearly 300 pounds. Hicks is an elite athlete who can line up at the zero, three, or five techniques along the defensive line.
