SEC Football: Most impactful newcomers for each team
By Dante Pryor
Auburn Tigers
Hugh Freeze is the most important newcomer to the Auburn football program. Freeze had some success in the SEC during his time at Mississippi, and he takes over an Auburn program that struggled under former head coach Bryan Harsin. Freeze did an outstanding job putting a solid first recruiting class.
Auburn has 21 signees out of high school and 12 transfers (right now), according to 247Sports.com. Freeze and his staff emphasized the trenches, signing 11 offensive and defensive linemen out of high school and seven via the transfer portal. Freeze knows the importance of the offensive and defensive lines in the SEC, and his first recruiting class demonstrates this.
Incoming frosh defensive lineman Keldric Faulk has the size and versatility to get some snaps this fall. The Alabama native can give some pass rush as a true freshman and maybe even kick inside in certain situations. Transfer tackles Gunner Britton (Western Kentucky) and Dillon Wade (Tulsa) will compete for starting spots, though Wade could transition to guard.
The biggest question for the Tigers is, “who plays quarterback?” Robby Ashford and T.J. Finley split time playing quarterback last season. Is next season’s starting quarterback even on the roster?
