Miami (Ohio) (W)

This opener will serve as nothing more than a prep game. The RedHawks are an FBS team coming off of a bowl season, and those two qualities will make them big enough to ease the Hurricanes into their schedule.

But, there is nonetheless a drastic mismatch in regards to both size and physicality that should result in an overwhelming victory to start Cristobal’s second season in Coral Gables.

Texas A&M (L)

Especially when considering last year’s low-scoring meeting between the two, Miami football and Texas A&M’s 2023 clash will likely be both ugly and entertaining—but that thought doesn’t give me much to work with when declaring which one I think will prevail.

Both teams have respectable coaching and star-studded rosters, but them still managing to go 5-7 in 2022 makes gauging their limits insanely more difficult. With that said, how they previously matched up against each other will have to be our main frame of reference.

Last season, the Aggies were able to snag a 17-9 victory out of their battle with the Hurricanes. Despite Miami racking up convincingly more yardage both on the ground and through the air, A&M was able to keep its endzone untouched from start to finish.

Combining that defensive feat with the fact that the Aggies run a good chance of being no worse this time around leaves me without a single ounce of confidence in promising a Canes win. Therefore, I’m willing to give them a loss here.

Bethune-Cookman (W)

As we just addressed, I have the Hurricanes entering Week 3 at 1-1 simply because I could not comfortably declare that they would beat Texas A&M. However, I can comfortably declare that they will beat Bethune-Cookman.
