Ohio State football: 3 takeaways from 2023 spring game
1. Kyle McCord didn’t exactly run away with QB1
For those who were expecting Kyle McCord to seize an opportunity to prove himself as the clear No. 1 quarterback with Devin Brown out, they were probably severely disappointed. McCord didn’t do anything special to run away with the job and there’s a good chance this quarterback battle will stretch well into the summer.
McCord did have some nice connections with Marvin Harrison Jr., but there just wasn’t enough to go off of when it comes to him separating himself as the QB1 like people expected.
Brown is going to face a big summer with the Buckeyes because the starting job is very much up for grabs. Ryan Day is going to have a tough decision to make as well because replacing CJ Stroud is not going to be an easy task.
Who will win the starting job? That question isn’t any closer to being answered after Saturday’s spring game in Columbus.
