Colorado football: Would move to Big 12 make sense?
Folks, realignment might be taking over college football yet again. There are rumors circulating about Big 12 and Pac-12 teams making moves and the latest is Colorado football.
While there’s more than just football to take into consideration for a realignment, that’s the big money-maker for each school. Colorado is no exception.
This would be the second major move for the Buffaloes following the hiring of Deion Sanders following the 2022 season and it would probably make more fans buy in. The program was a member of the Big 12 as recently as 2010 before making the move to the Pac-12.
The news comes from a report from CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd who said that the Buffaloes are in “substantive” talks about leaving the Pac-12 for the Big 12.
This would be an interesting move, but one that the Big 12 should make to help replace teams like Texas and Oklahoma which will be leaving for the SEC in 2024.
Does this move make sense for Oklahoma football?
To me, it would make sense. The Buffaloes always had a Big 12 feel to them and when they made the move to the Pac-12, it just didn’t sit right.
Since joining the Pac-12, Colorado has struggled to adjust to the style of play and I think under Sanders, a move back to the Big 12 would be a nice fit. The conference has more air-raid offenses now anyways, so it wouldn’t be a crazy adjustment.
Colorado could also have a big recruiting footprint in Big 12 territory like Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska.
Plus, the conference got much more wide open with Texas and Oklahoma leaving. The Buffaloes would have a better chance to win the Big 12 than the Pac-12 with teams like Oregon, USC, UCLA, Utah, Washington, and Oregon State all getting better. The main competition in the Big 12 would be teams like Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas, TCU, Cincinnati, Kansas State, and Texas Tech. Much more manageable.
On top of that, the Buffaloes would get a rivalry back in Kansas State.
The move would make plenty of sense.
