“Complimentary football”

If you noticed anything about the games where they are upset, it is likely the fact that Iowa is not a team that is known for scoring a lot of points. Part of the confusion surrounding the Hawkeyes comes from their style of play.

On the offensive side of the ball, they are a team that relies on a ball-control. They are going to spend a lot of clock, and not turn the ball over. Clocking in at 130th out of 131 in offensive yards per game, Iowa struggles mightily when trying to move the ball. To counteract this, the team must not turn the ball over if they want to win games.

Last year, many fans of the Hawkeyes (including myself) get concerned over the lack of offense Iowa has produced over the last few years. Although this is concerning, at least they are able to set up their top-of-the-line special teams unit to succeed.

Complimentary football needs to happen moving forward.
