Week 2: Oregon @ Texas Tech

My sick mind is really looking forward to Illinois/Kansas, but Oregon and Texas Tech will have a much bigger impact on college football as a whole this year. Alabama/Texas and Coach Prime’s home debut are going to get all the attention, but this deserves a watch as well. Oregon will come in with high expectations as usual, but Texas Tech is going to be a team to respect this year, and this is the game where we find out how true that statement is.  Oregon will go as Bo Nix goes. If we see 2022 Nix, this will be a great game. If we see the old Bo Nix return, it could be a long day for Ducks fans

I was high on Texas Tech last year and some may argue it was a year early. But the Red Raiders had their best season since 2013 and now under year two of Joey McGuire, even more improvement will be shown…  If Texas Tech wins this game, they could be 6-0 heading into a home matchup with defending Big 12 Champion Kansas State.

Week 3: TCU @ Houston

College Football Week 3 features the slam-dunk pick for the “wait, what?” game of the year when Alabama travels to USF. Alabama hasn’t played a road game against a non-power team since the Tide traveled to Hawaii on November 29, 2003. But onto the actual game.

Welcome to the Big 12, Houston. Greeting the Cougards at the conference gates are the National Championship runner-up, TCU. The Frogs lost a ton on offense, including quarterback Max Duggan. Houston will no doubt be fired up for this game, especially at home. TCU came out of nowhere last year and could experience a fall back to earth in 2023. Houston will do everything in their power to ensure that’s exactly what happens.

Week 4: Arkansas @ LSU

I have a feeling this game me be swept under the rug a lot more than it should, especially in a week with Florida State @ Clemson and Ohio State @ Notre Dame, and to a lesser extent, Oklahoma traveling north to face Cincinnati in the Bearcats’ Big 12 debut.

Arkansas is a tough team to figure out in 2023: they only bring back eight total starters, but you know they’re going to be a tough out no matter who they play. Pittman’s Razorbacks have earned respect as a very physical team, much like the Arkansas of old. Now they need to start winning some of those close games. Arkansas lost to a surprising 10-win SEC West Champion LSU by just three points last season. LSU is going to be a solid team again and probably challenge Alabama for the SEC West crown.  but in rivalry games like this, expect the unexpected.
