Not only will Michigan State football be giving up a true home-field advantage by playing their game at Ford Field, but they will also be giving up some traditions as well as the seniors will not be celebrating Senior Day at Spartan Stadium on Nov. 24.

The final regular season game and even possibly the last game wearing a Spartan uniform if Michigan State football doesn’t go to a bowl game for a group of seniors on the team will now be at Ford Field instead of Spartan Stadium which the stadium is ironically celebrating a milestone this year.

The last game at Spartan Stadium will be on Nov. 4 and Michigan State has three more scheduled games after that. This is by far not the most unsettling reason why the Spartans playing the Nittany Lions on the Friday after Thanksgiving at Ford Field is not a good idea but college football is changing so rapidly that traditions such as honoring seniors on the home field they play on for their last scheduled collegiate game, is a great way to honor and acknowledge the graduating seniors who have been with the program for four or possibly five or more seasons.

There are 20 seniors listed and five 6th-year players currently listed on the Michigan State roster with the majority of them being more than likely to be honored for senior day. It is understandable with the transfer portal that some of the seniors and 6th-year players were not a Michigan State athlete for their entire collegiate football playing time, but that shouldn’t matter when honoring these student-athletes for senior day.

This could have been an amazing atmosphere at Spartan Stadium in late November as the University could have celebrated the 100th anniversary of the stadium, while also honoring all of the seniors who spent so much time and dedicated so much to the university as student-athletes. But the athletic department and the football program chose to have their last scheduled game of the regular season against Penn State be at Ford Field in Detriot instead.
