Pac-12 2023 Heisman Trophy Contender: Caleb Williams, USC

Caleb Williams was spectacular last season. I know some people didn’t think he deserved to win the 2022 Heisman Trophy, but he was clearly the best player.

Things didn’t go all that well in the Pac-12 championship game and Tulane upset USC in the Cotton Bowl, but the stage is set for Williams to do something (repeat winner) since Archie Griffin in the 1970s.

Bryce Young had a shot to win the Heisman Trophy again last year and was closer than some people realize. If Alabama’s kicker doesn’t miss against Tennessee, the Crimson Tide would have won that game, and win the LSU game, Young might have won it again.

That shows how important team success is. Williams could put up huge numbers but if the Trojans lose some games along the way, his candidacy will fall by the wayside.
