SEC 2023 Heisman Trophy Contender: Jayden Daniels, LSU

Jayden Daniels finally started to live up to his massive potential last season in his first campaign with LSU under Brian Kelly.

Daniels actually threw the ball a lot better than he gets credit for. Daniels completed 68.6 percent of his passes for 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He also averaged eight yards per attempt and passed for 2,913 yards.

On top of that, Daniels rushed for 885 yards and 11 touchdowns. He came through in the clutch too, in the win over Alabama.

Daniels is the clear option to me, but Carson Beck of Georgia is another name to watch. I’d also keep my eye on Spencer Rattler, but doubt South Carolina will win enough for it to matter.

Group of Five Heisman Contender: Michael Pratt, Tulane

Tulane is the team most believe will have a chance to be the Group of 5 representative in the New Year’s Six Bowl games. Tulane won the American last year and made the Cotton Bowl, which the Green Wave won thanks to a stellar showing from Michael Pratt.

It’s a long shot, but keep an eye on Pratt. He threw for 20 touchdowns last season and added 10 more on the ground. He’ll have to put up bigger numbers, but seems due for a breakout season and Tulane at least has some name recognition.
