2. Davon Mitchell, TE, Oklahoma
There was a trio of five-star commitments this past week in the 2024 college football recruiting class but one of them was due to reclassification.
Davon Mitchell is 6-foot-4, 245 pounds out of Los Alamitos, California. He pledged to the Sooners on Saturday and also re-classified to the 2024 class.
Oklahoma might have lost Lincoln Riley to USC, but at least Brent Venables was able to pull one of the nation’s top tight ends out of California. Mitchell hasn’t been re-ranked for 2024 yet but was ranked 16th overall in 2025 via the 247 Sports composite rankings.
1. Elijah Rushing, EDGE, Arizona
The biggest commitment of the first week of July was five-star EDGE Elijah Rushing committing to Arizona. At 6-foot-6, 250 pounds, Rushing could have gone to Oregon, Notre Dame, Georgia, Alabama, or another powerhouse.
Instead, the prospect from Tuscon, Arizona decided to stay home and play for Jedd Fisch and Arizona. The Wildcats have been making progress and landing the 27th-ranked player overall in the 2024 college football recruiting class is massive.
It’s really hard to overstate the importance. The Wildcats are also trending to land a four-star quarterback Demond Williams.

Arizona isn’t known for landing big-time commitments, so it’s hugely important for Jedd Fisch, who does have the Wildcats trending up in the Pac-12.
