Oklahoma football

The struggles of Oklahoma football in the 2023 college football season were another shock to me. After the Sooners beat down Nebraska, people thought they were a playoff contender.

Then, the wheels fell off. Dillon Gabriel got hurt and Oklahoma’s defense fell apart, ranking 90th in scoring defense. The offense still finished 33rd in points scored and when we consult the blue-chip ratio, they are tied with Texas for ninth in percentage of blue-chips on the roster.

Dillon Gabriel returned for another season as the starting quarterback, which was huge. He’ll bounce back this season for Oklahoma and I think Brent Venables will too.

Venables is a stellar defensive coordinator. He’ll get Oklahoma football looking like itself on defense once again. I’m not going to say the Sooners will win the Big 12, but they’ll be in the mix and will have a good shot to win double-digit games in the 2023 college football season.
