Can the Eastern Michigan football offense continue to be productive?

The catalyst of last season’s offense remains the same with the return of running back Samson Evans. Eastern’s wrecking ball running back gained 1,166 yards and led the MAC with 15 touchdowns. Jaylon Jackson is an excellent change-of-pace running back that might see more carries in 2023.

Creighton might rely on the running game because last year’s starting quarterback Taylor Powell is gone. Austin Smith is likely the game-one starter. He’s a mobile quarterback with a good arm. Smith will be throwing to a rebuilt receiver room. The only leading receiver back is Tanner Knue.

The Eagles did not do much in the portal but picked up two receivers. Javon Swinton (Indiana) and Terry Lockett (Michigan State) are likely to be in the mix to start for Eastern this fall. Speaking of the portal, the Eagles signed three offensive linemen transfers.

Brian Dooley was an All-MAC second-team performer last year. Alex Howe and Dimitri Douglas both saw snaps last year. Couple them with Dan Sunderman (Central Missouri), Owen Snively (Colorado State), and Chris Mayo (West Virginia), and the Eagles will hash out an offensive line.
