2. Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State is an obvious choice because, well, it has been a Big Ten title contender for decades. There has rarely been a year in which the Buckeyes have dodged contention and the last time I can even think of that happening was in 2012 when Luke Fickell was the interim head coach after Jim Tressel stepped down.

The Buckeyes will once again be in the Big Ten title race likely until the season’s final week as The Game will take center stage in Ann Arbor.

Unfortunately for Ohio State and the reason the Buckeyes aren’t No. 1 on here is the fact that CJ Stroud is gone and they’ll have to rely on a brand-new quarterback to beat Michigan on the road. I’m just not convinced that’s going to happen this season if it couldn’t without Stroud.

Ryan Day is facing a ton of pressure this season after losing back-to-back rivalry games against Michigan and not winning the Big Ten title since 2020. That alone may be enough to make Ohio State that much scarier. The Buckeyes are playing with their backs against the wall.

This team is as talented as any in college football, on paper, but it’s all about execution now.
