Week 9: Oregon at Utah (Oct. 28)

It appears that October is the month to beat for Ducks fans just as much as it is for Tide fans, as the teams have been granted half of its spotlight each, but what is it about a visit to Utah that justifies giving Oregon that extra attention? Simply put, it’s just how great Utah has been.

From 2018 to now, the Utes have amassed 43 wins and have gone 2-2 in the Pac-12 title game, with the two victories coming from 2021 and 2022. That level of consistency makes them villains in the sights of all their conference foes—including Oregon.

The Ducks stand out for having been able to topple the Utes last November and, in the process, hold them to what ended up being the least amount of points they’d score in a game all season (17). That feat makes them a top team to watch in the Pac’s mission to dethrone Utah once and for all.

And especially when considering that the schools are set to face Washington and USC at other points in their schedules, the outcome of this encounter can/will play a pivotal role in both their conference’s standings and postseason footprint. Just like it’s been with the previous couple of games on this list, that is the deciding factor that puts Oregon/Utah above the rest of Week 9’s headliners.

These games prove that the magnitude of the year’s implications will be at an all-time high even with several weeks of the regular season remaining, and that should get us all the more excited for the fourth and final month in this series: November. If its Weeks 10-13 are anything like October’s 6-9, then there is still much of the college football hype train left to take on.
