3. Almost failed a drug test at the NFL combine

In preparation for the NFL draft, Johnny Manziel’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, made him stick to a plan of only making sure videos of himself in the gym working out hit the internet. That meant no partying and staying clean until the draft so he could maintain his draft stock and actually improve it.

Manziel said that he did a good job of staying clean and away from partying for the entirety of the offseason leading up to the NFL combine. The week of the combine, he slipped up and went to a party with a bunch of celebrities (a common theme) and blacked out, and woke up back in his place. He called his agent and told him that he messed (not the exact word) up. He said he didn’t remember what happened but wasn’t sure if he did drugs or not.

And the combine had a drug test.

In a slight panic, his agent had devised a plan to have his dad fake a heart issue in order to pull Manziel away from the combine so he wouldn’t fail a drug test.

Manziel ended up chugging water in a hotel room throughout the combine and was surprisingly good to go. He said he’d done this a ton at Texas A&M, but his agent found out that a fourth-string quarterback had been urinating in cups for Manziel so he’d pass his drug tests.
