5. Notre Dame

There’s a common assumption regarding Notre Dame fans that is sometimes correct, but a majority of the fanbase is great. Many believe that Notre Dame fans are arrogant and they look down on the rest of college football fans.

To a point, that’s true. Notre Dame is like the New York Yankees or Los Angeles Lakers or Dallas Cowboys of college football.

The Baby Boomer generation that grew up in the Midwest gravitated toward Notre Dame because of its tradition, rich history, and the fact that it was one of the only teams to play on national TV each week. That’s how the fanbase grew so much.

Notre Dame has one of the coolest campuses, tradition-rich programs, and loyal fanbases in all of sports, not just college football.

The only reason the Irish fanbase isn’t higher on this list is because it only filled 98.2% of its beautiful stadium each week, good for just 21st nationally. That has to improve for Notre Dame to push for the top spot in terms of fanbases.
