18. Alabama

Another fanbase you may be shocked to see this low, and honestly, so am I. In fact, I was so ready to make Alabama a top-five fanbase heading into 2023 before I really dove into the numbers that I even wrote them out as the No. 3 team before getting into my research.

Let me start by saying that I have no problem with Alabama fans. I haven’t come across too many bad ones even though their team has kicked the tar out of my alma mater twice in the past 15 years (I went to MSU), but the reason they’re this low is due to the attendance numbers.

Are the attendance numbers bad? Absolutely not, it’s tough to pack a 100,000-seat stadium on a regular basis.

But come on, Alabama fans. You can’t be going out there with the 27th-ranked average capacity percentage. While 97.2% doesn’t seem low, it was good for just No. 9 in the SEC for a team that went 11-2 and had the reigning Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback.

The social media presence is massive (1.4 million Facebook likes and 1.1 million Twitter followers), but you just have to pack Bryant-Denny.
