Indiana’s transfer portal approach seems to be a success

Indiana hit the transfer portal big time. Tom Allen knew he had to change something up in Bloomington. His philosophy of player development had run its course and he needed to change things up. For better or for worse, Allen hit the transfer portal and changed over his roster, being one of the more active teams in the portal this offseason.

Michigan State’s Mel Tucker took this same approach in 2021 and then again in 2022. It was a great success for him in the first go around. The second, not so much. Allen is hoping he can strike gold like Tucker did back in 2021.

Indiana’s biggest problem has always been depth. As soon as an injury happens, or a player gets taken out of a game due to a good gameplan, Allen never had anyone else step up. Thanks to the transfer portal, the Hoosiers just have more capable bodies, especially on defense, which was a troubled area last season.

Senior linebacker Aaron Casey was all over the place, being the only defender on either team to finish with double-digit tackles with 11. Louis Moore, one of the Hoosier’s many transfers, finished with six tackles to go along with homegrown talents Kobee Minor and Phillip Dunnam who both also had six tackles apiece while Dunnam also had the lone interception on the afternoon.
