2. Mike Hart or Sherrone Moore, Michigan

If either Michigan offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore or running backs coach Mike Hart gets the Michigan State job, it says more about them than Michigan State. The word around the Michigan program claims that they aren’t worried about Harbaugh’s annual flirtation with the NFL because they have two potential head coaches on the staff.

The only issue with that is there is only one head coach. Also, no one knows how long Jim Harbaugh will continue to coach at Michigan. Fans and writers point to Brent Venables and Kirby Smart. Both were longtime coordinators who waited and got the jobs of their choice. However, those aren’t the lessons to learn from.

Seth Littrell was the hot coach and had an opportunity to take the Kansas State job after Bill Snyder finally retired. He didn’t, and now he’s an analyst at Oklahoma. Matt Campbell was reportedly offered the Detroit Lions and the Nebraska job. Now he’s getting into it with fans about his job security.

The point is that you don’t know how long your good reputation will last. Go when you are hot and get a job where you can succeed.
