2. Defensive takeaways for the BYU Cougars

It was a tale of two halves for this defense this afternoon. The defense held up for the Cougars in the first half as we all knew that the front seven for this team were legitimately pretty good. They applied good pressure to Jalon Daniels and kept him in the pocket for the most part preventing him from scrambling for yards. The Cougars did a pretty good job in the run game as well, as they only gave up 49 rushing yards in the first half.

The second half was where KU just torched them on the ground, the Cougars couldn’t seem to come up with a stop, and when it came to trying to stop the drive on a third and long, the defense broke down and couldn’t get off of the field.

The Cougars need to put themselves in better situations, when in those third and long circumstances. They had some opportunities to change the outcome of the game but couldn’t come up with those turnovers. That will have to change if they are going to be competitive in these conference games.

Defensive takeaways for Kansas football

The Jayhawks were solid on defense for the most part, there were three possessions in the first half where they couldn’t prevent BYU from getting points. which resulted in two touchdowns and a field goal (right before the end of the half).

Where the Jayhawks did well, was the turnover battle, as they were +3. They ended the game with a pick 6, a fumble returned for a touchdown, and another interception. All of these turnovers happened when BYU was driving downfield and didn’t seem like there was a prayer for the KU defense.
