Sean McDonough sets social media on fire with hilarious quip
Sean McDonough is one of the most respected and seasoned broadcasters in the world, and he obviously knows a thing or two about timing.
On the list of current great broadcasters in college football, Sean McDonough ranks right up there with the best of them. He’s professional, has a great voice, and knows when to drop in the perfect line.
In today’s tilt between the Clemson Tigers and Florida State Seminoles, McDonough dropped in a quip that was both timely and topical, and social media at it up.
Near the end of the 4th quarter, Clemson had the chance to take a possible game-winning lead with a field goal. But it wasn’t by just any old placekicker.
This kick was being attempted by Jonathan Weitz, a kicker who spent four years as a backup kicker for the Tigers without seeing any field goal attempts. Weitz left the program with a year of eligibility to begin working on his master’s degree.
With the struggles freshman kicker Robert Gunn III was having, head coach Dabo Swinney put in a call to Weitz to ask for his help. Weitz arrived this week and was kicking in the game on Saturday.
Things were going fine for Weitz all day. And then…
The pressure of a potential game-winning kick. It was a Hollywood script in motion on the screen. But Weitz sent the kick wide of the upright and the game would end up going into overtime.
Let’s head to the booth for the aftermath:
Maybe the writers are on strike, but McDonough doesn’t need one. He’s fully capable of providing his own material.
We’re not worthy, Sean.
