Could the Virginia Cavaliers go winless this season?

What all does/doesn’t go into this kind of conversation?

Shockingly, the specifics of UVA’s current inadequacy are irrelevant for this discussion—the Cavs suck, period. With that in mind, it’s simply a matter of looking at their remaining games and wondering if they suck enough to lose all of them, starting with their next matchup: at Boston College.

With how unsatisfactory of a start the Eagles have had, it would normally be fair to assume that the Cavaliers could hold their own in this one. However, I stand unconvinced, as the Eagles are certainly capable of playing with an edge in Chestnut Hill. Don’t believe me? Just ask Florida State.

Yes, I know that was the famous “red bandana” game, but that doesn’t change the players their opponents are actually facing. So, if those guys are good enough to scare the living daylights out of FSU, the last thing I’m going to do is write them off against UVA.

Next up, we have a game that the Virginia Cavaliers are favored in and, dare I say, they should be. In Week 6, they will welcome the William & Mary Tribe of the FCS to Charlottesville, but Cavs fans shouldn’t get too cocky just yet.

There are two reasons I feel a twinge of doubt surrounding this encounter; one is that the Tribe is currently undefeated, and the other is that Virginia isn’t beyond struggling with FCS-level foes during a bad-enough year (something that, to me, 2023 definitely qualifies as right now).

In other words, I think we can all agree that the Cavs should win this game, but when considering their current condition, blindly assuming that they’ll blow right through without issue would be nothing more than a product of delusion and denial.

If anyone thought that was too harsh of a take, now is probably a good time for me to say that that’s about as positive as I’m going to get today, as after the Tribe comes to town, a bye week is the only thing standing between UVA and its schedule going full scorched-earth mode.
