The Notre Dame Fighting Irish defense has been on a tear this year, being top 15 in the nation.

Notre Dame football defense will keep the Blue Devils rushing attack to under 100 yards

This year, The Irish defense has been legitimate, as they are allowing 12.8 points per game, which ranks 15th in the nation in opposition scoring, and 260.6 total yards per game. More importantly, opponents of Notre Dame football are averaging 3.2 yards per rush on the ground and 111.2 yards per game this year. The Irish have been on a mean streak this year when defending the pass, giving up 149.4 passing yards per game. The Fighting Irish have had five interceptions and seven forced fumbles, so expect some hard hits, with some possible turnovers to come with it.

Notre Dame football will come on a beeline to attack the ball carrier, it’s what they have done all season long, but I’m not sure that they have run into a running attack such as this. A power-running scheme with the passing game as a complement.

They are averaging 200.5 rushing yards per game and senior running back Jordan Waters has 39 rushing attempts for 258 yards (6.6 yards per carry) with seven rushing touchdowns. Running the ball has been Duke’s strength this year, but the defensive front has not been a slouch either as previously noted. This will be one of the more important keys to the game, and whoever wins this battle could largely result in whoever wins the game.
