ACC Power Rankings: Cards crack top 25, Duke loses on late touchdown
By Dante Pryor
14. Virginia Cavaliers (0-5, 0-2): The Cavaliers have played well in ACC play thus far. Both of their losses were by a field goal. Their loss last weekend to Boston College was because they did not finish well. They took a 21-7 lead into the locker room but could only muster three second-half points.
Their game against William and Mary is a must-win because they might not have another win on the schedule.
13. Pittsburgh Panthers (1-4, 0-2): Is Pat Narduzzi on the hot seat? Maybe the question should be, should Pat Narduzzi be on the hot seat? It’s hard not to get behind the gravitas of a coach like Narduzzi, but the post-Mark Whipple offensive experiment is not working. The Panthers’ offense looks pedestrian, but that isn’t the most pressing issue.
Pittsburgh has allowed 39.5 points per game in ACC play. The Panthers surrendered 427 yards to Virginia Tech. Narduzzi and his staff desperately need to figure out the defense.
12. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2-3, 1-1): This pattern of lose one, win one could be what we see from Georgia Tech all season. That said, head coach Brent Pry cannot be happy with a loss to Bowling Green. If you are trying to get to the postseason, you have to win those games.
Especially since your schedule includes #17 Miami, #14 North Carolina, Clemson, and #1 Georgia.
11. Boston College Eagles (2-3, 1-2): Saturday’s 27-24 win against Virginia might not save Jeff Hafley’s job in Chestnut Hill, but Hafley and the staff have to love the fight the Eagles showed coming back from a 21-7 deficit to win the game in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles need to put a complete game together. If they can, and quarterback Thomas Castellanos continues to improve, the back half of the schedule might have four wins.
