3. Oklahoma football will stop Jonathon Brooks

Conversations around the success of Texas this year normally include running back Jonathon Brooks, who is averaging 119.4 rushing yards per game in 2023.

The sophomore from Halletsville, Tex. has been dynamite in the Longhorns’ backfield this season. He rushed for 218 yards and two touchdowns against Kansas last week and is enjoying a breakout season, helping balance the Texas offensive attack.

Oklahoma’s run defense, though, is much improved since last year. The Sooners have allowed zero rushing touchdowns this season — the only other team besides Iowa to achieve this feat in through the first five weeks — and allow only 105 rushing yards per contest, the 28th-best mark in the nation.

Cincinnati features the country’s 10th-best rushing offense (averaging 220 yards per game), but the Bearcats were held to almost 100 yards under this mark in a 20-6 loss to the Sooners in Week 4.

Look for Oklahoma to stuff Brooks early and often in Dallas on Saturday morning.
