1. Oklahoma football will defeat Texas

This statement pains me. No, really. My faithful readers know that I’m a childhood Oklahoma State fan, and it’s been a bit of a respite from the mediocre-to-horrible state of the Cowboys to see somebody else (even if it’s the Sooners) also beat the Longhorns consistently.

Texas has been on the national radar for several months now. The Longhorns had an eye-opening and revelatory defeat of Alabama to begin the 2023 season, and the current No. 3 national ranking is a huge change for the Longhorns after years of mediocrity and frequent losses to programs like TCU and Baylor.

Oklahoma hasn’t faced much competition so far this season, beating up on squads like Tulsa, Iowa State, and Arkansas State.

Look for the Sooners, though, to rise to the occasion under the national spotlight this Saturday. Oklahoma and head coach Brent Venables will be ready for revenge after last year’s embarrassing 49-0 shutout against Texas, a game in which the Longhorns outgained the Sooners by nearly 400 yards.

With such a strong start to the season after that Week 2 triumph in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Texas will feel the pressure of a CFP and national title run on Saturday against an old foe — so look for Oklahoma to win a close one.
