Alabama football: 3 takeaways from close road win against Texas A&M
By Dante Pryor
Alabama Football offensive takeaways:
Nick Saban and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees have to love how Jalen Milroe played this afternoon. Milroe was under duress most of the game but still completed over 60 percent of his passes. Moreover, they needed all 321 yards from him this afternoon. If there is one thing Saban and his staff know they need to fix is the running game.
The Tide still has issues on the offensive line. Give credit where credit is due; the Aggies might have the best defensive front this side of Athens. However, Alabama struggles with both run blocking and pass protection. Alabama won’t win many games running for 23 yards.
On a more positive note, Jermaine Burton and Isaiah Bond had the best receiving games for Alabama receivers this season. Burton had 197 receiving yards and two touchdowns; Bond had 96, including a 52-yard touchdown catch.
Texas A&M offensive takeaways:
Quarterback Max Johnson did not play poorly, but Alabama’s secondary did an outstanding job limiting what the Aggies wanted to do in the passing game. Like the Tide, A&M also struggled to run the football with any consistency. Unlike Alabama, however, A&M could not throw the football consistently.
Johnson was pressured most of the game and could not find his two best receivers, Anais Smith and Evan Stuart, with any regularity. Smith and Stuart combined for seven receptions.
