Georgia football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over No. 20 Kentucky
The Georgia Bulldogs offensive identity starts with Carson Beck
This offense has struggled to find its identity until this game; we knew that tight end Brock Bowers is arguably the best prospect in college football this year. What we needed to know was how good Carson Beck is. With all the weapons on the offense, you wondered if Carson Beck could sling it. Last year, you had Stetson Bennett and were always worried about him using his legs and his arm. With Beck, you don’t really worry too much about him using his legs.
Carson Beck can chuck it! Obviously, it’s a straightforward statement, but before this game, you didn’t see him chuck it downfield for significant gains, not to this degree. In this game, he was slicing and dicing up the Kentucky Wildcats defense like they were a JV squad.
Beck threw for 389 yards, completing 28 of 35 passes with four touchdown passes. The one downside of the evening was his one interception, but that can be corrected. He has only thrown three interceptions so far this season, so he’s not specifically turnover-prone, which will benefit him well as the season goes on when he will continue to be relied on.
The Georgia Bulldogs had 34 first downs against Kentucky. Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo had a strategy that was achieved to perfection for 608 total yards. This isn’t a run-first team but a run to open up the pass-game team.
This team is dangerous and will undoubtedly continue to be No. 1 in the nation.
