Alabama Football: 3 takeaways from tight homecoming win over Arkansas

3. Alabama football’s offense is improving
When asked about Milroe’s performance and his mistakes, coach Saban simply said, “he’ll learn from this game.” That’s what 2023 is for the Alabama offense: a learning experience. Milroe is a first-year starter and wasn’t the cemented starter until after the USF game. Kadyn Proctor has the potential to be a first-round draft pick.
However, Proctor is a true freshman, playing next to a true sophomore, Tyler Booker. So, it’s taken some time for the Crimson Tide to determine what they want to do and what to be offensively. The encouraging sign is the offensive line has played better in the last few games. Milroe takes sacks, but he holds the football too long.
Running backs Jace McClellan and Roydell Williams have run the football better over the last games. Taking out the sack yards, Alabama ran for 196 yards this afternoon. McClellan led the Crimson Tide with 83 yards today. It is interesting, however, that offensive coordinator Tommy Rees does not run Milroe more often, given his experience with running quarterbacks.
Milroe throws one of the better deep balls in college football, but he needs to improve throwing the ball in the intermediate range. He made some solid throws in the first half but missed too many easy throws in the second half.
