Winner: Notre Dame football and Marcus Freeman

Notre Dame salvaged its season on Saturday night. It wasn’t saved. It’s probably always going to be viewed as a disappointment to some, simply because Sam Hartman is the kind of quarterback Notre Dame has needed and still won’t make the playoff.

However, the Irish did keep their hopes alive of playing in a major bowl game. Believe it or not, they have played eight games already.

There is a trip to Clemson, as well as a game against Pittsburgh, who just beat a ranked Louisville team, but every game is winnable and if the Irish win out, they’ll reach a New Year’s Six Bowl game.

It wasn’t the goal and next year, with 12 teams going, the Irish would still have life. Not in 2023 though. That ship has sailed.
