College Football Week 8 loser: North Carolina and Drake Maye

Just when we started to give North Carolina some respect, the Tar Heels reminded us that they weren’t for real as they lost their first game of the season against Virginia, a one-win team.

The schedule is still manageable. A home game against Duke, as well as a road game against Clemson, are the toughest contests in addition to a road game against North Carolina State.

What’s disappointing is that UNC could have probably gone 2-1 in those three games and still reached the ACC championship again. Now, Louisville is tied with North Carolina and Duke is still within a game.

Next. Projected top 25 for Week 9. dark

Drake Maye’s late interception won’t do his Heisman hopes any favors. It’s not over quite yet and team results shouldn’t mean everything, but good or bad, they do and Saturday probably doomed Maye’s hopes of winning the Heisman this season.
