6. Jordan Travis, FSU

Jordan Travis wasn’t flawless against Duke. He threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 62 yards and led the Seminoles to a huge fourth quarter in the 38-20 win over Duke, which was ranked 16th. It was the third somewhat marquee win of the season for the Noles — who also beat Clemson, LSU, and Duke. Travis is quarterbacking a national title contender and to me, he’s got the look of a Heisman Trophy finalist.

5. Caleb Williams, USC

Two weeks ago Caleb Williams was No. 1 in our ranking of college football quarterbacks. But the numbers don’t lie and he hasn’t played like the best quarterback in college football the past two weeks against the two best defenses he has faced. Williams threw just one touchdown pass over the last two weeks compared to three interceptions. He did have a key rushing touchdown against Utah, but it’s not like the Trojans came out firing on all cylinders.

As I said, I’d take McCarthy over Williams in terms of the No. 1 overall pick, but there is plenty of time for Caleb to change the narrative. Any hope of a playoff berth is done though. His chances of repeating as the Heisman winner also took a huge hit. I think he’ll be lucky to be a finalist.
