No 4. Texas A&M Aggies

It seems like Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher has been on the hot seat for years. Despite annual elite-level recruiting and deep-pocketed boosters, the Aggies have had a tough time reaching the pinnacle of the SEC mountaintop. Texas A&M hasn’t been able to win its own division (looking at you Alabama), let alone its conference since Jimbo Fisher was installed as the head coach.

Despite the storied success he enjoyed at Florida State, Fisher always seems to fall exponentially short of the sky-high expectations set forth by the Aggie faithful. Fisher has gotten across the finish line ranked in the AP Top 25 just twice since arriving at College Station in 2018.

Should Texas A&M choose to go in a different direction and hit the reset button, Fisher would be owed an incomprehensible $76.8 million if he were to be fired during the 2023 season.

Bruce Feldman, reporter for The Athletic, recently confirmed the large sum of money owed to the coach will not be a reason to hold off on giving him his walking papers. “I’m told if he doesn’t get it going this year, A&M will find that money.” Only USC’s Lincoln Riley ($100 million) and Georgia’s Kirby Smart ($103 million)  have larger buyouts in their contracts than FIsher, as noted by Bleacher Report.

Things are only going to get more difficult once Texas  and Oklahoma arrive in the summer and once again reshape the SEC. It might be wise to start over now to get a head start in the school’s quest to win SEC championships and national titles.

If the Aggies go that route, who do they go after to rebuild and reshape the program into the powerhouse it perceives itself to be?
