7. Dillon Gabriel, Oklahoma

The Heisman campaign came crashing to a halt for Dillon Gabriel in the past few weeks. Still, he’s one of the best college football quarterbacks in the 2023 season. He’s ranked fifth in QBR and while he threw for 344 yards and one touchdown against Oklahoma State, it’s hard to put too much blame on him for the loss. He also rushed for three touchdowns against Kansas. But after having a QBR of better than 93 in back-to-back wins, including one over Texas, Gabriel has been under 70 in three straight weeks.

6. Jordan Travis, Florida State

Travis has been the model of consistency this season. He’s got 26 total touchdowns (seven on the ground) and is seventh among college football quarterbacks in QBR. Travis has thrown for 359 yards in back-to-back weeks, as well as a rushing touchdown in wins over Wake Forest and Pitt. He’s also got just two interceptions this season, which might be his most impressive stat.

5. Caleb Williams, USC

Caleb Williams didn’t have the best game against Notre Dame. Outside of that, he’s been spectacular. He’s leading college football quarterbacks with 28 touchdown passes. He’s second in college football in passing yards (2,958), as well as 146 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. That’s almost 40 total touchdowns for Williams. The problem is that USC has allowed 101 points, as well as 40 or more in four of five games. That’s not a recipe for winning — no matter how talented your quarterback is.
