No. 8 Alabama: Buying

If you’re selling Alabama stock right now, I’ll take it. I’m looking to load up all I can on this team. I even bet them to win the national championship at +800 after they beat No. 13 LSU in Week 10.

Tommy Rees is an absolute mastermind and deserves a head coaching shot after what he’s done with the Alabama offense this year. Against Texas, Jalen Milroe completed 51.9% of his passes and threw two interceptions. Then, Milroe was benched against USF, before the Alabama staff committed to building the offense around him.

Since then, Milroe has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Rees allows Milroe to move the chains with his legs and then gives him plenty of chance to throw the deep ball. 23.4% of his attempts are 20+ yards downfield and he’s completing 53.7% of those passes for an average of 20.1 yards per attempt.

The offense is fixed and the defense is good enough to win a championship. All Bama has to do is beat Georgia in the SEC Championship game and they’re in the playoff.

No. 7 Texas: Buying

Texas has looked very shaky without Quinn Ewers and I’m not sold that they’ll even survive until he’s back. The only reason I’m buying is because of how easy the path has become for the Longhorns.

Next up, they have TCU, the Iowa State and Texas Tech to finish the season, before a likely rematch with Oklahoma, and the Sooners don’t look great right now. The Alabama win in Tuscaloosa holds up as one of the best in the country, so if Texas wins out, they’re almost certainly in. Especially with a few head-to-head matchups in front of them.
