With both programs having a lot of expectations during this final part of the current season and being frontrunners for the College Football Playoff, we will take a bit of time to mention how they have never played each other.

The Longhorns, much like Notre Dame, only have six Power Five teams they have never played as of the current season: Cincinnati, Illinois, Clemson, Duke, Michigan State, and Florida State.

While Clemson can be arguably be an intriguing matchup for the Longhorns as well, the Seminoles take the edge in this selection due to their richer history and the aforementioned College Football Playoff race.

This matchup is also unique because of all the buzzing multiple people have had about Florida State potentially being an SEC expansion candidate, which would lead to this matchup happening for the first time ever, of course, that is if the rumors are true and not as a non-conference matchup.

For the meantime, let’s just wait how these two programs’ do during the rest of the season, maybe they could meet in the CFP or New Year’s Six?

Potential dates for a non-conference series: 2029-30
